It is rightly said, ‘The Early you start, The Early you settle”. This phrase describes the journey of this youngest entrepreneur in the most peculiar manner. Agarwal entered into the business world at a very tender age. The oldest startup named Oravel was started by Ritesh when he was just 17. It was later on that Oravel was renamed as OYO rooms. Most recently, he made into the list of achievers under the age of 30 by Forbes Magazine.
It is truly worth knowing the story of this young lad who always dreamt big and wanted to become an entrepreneur since childhood.
Ritesh was born on 16th November, 1993 in Bissam Cuttack. He was raised up into middle-class Marwari family in a small town of Rayagada.
When he was a child he used to love writing and was very much interested in computer programming. He started learning programming at the age of 10.
After completing his 10+2, Agarwal came to Delhi to study in Indian school of Business and finance. But college education was not made for him as soon he dropped out and started his own company without even letting his family know about his decision.
At the age of 17, he travelled a lot across India and due to his experiences he got an inspiration to launch Oravel stays in the year 2012. It was in the year, 2013 when Ritesh turned 18, he realized that there are much more problems faced by budget travellers in India which needs to be addressed and thus OYO rooms came into existence.
Also the same year, he was selected for Thiel fellowship and was granted $ 100,000 by Peter Thiel, who is an early Facebook investor and co-founder of PayPal. The grant is given to those who are under 20 and who skip their college for two years in order to pursue their own business.
With this, he became the first Indian resident to grab the Thiel Fellowship and since then there is no looking back for Ritesh. OYO rooms are one of the few non-copied start-ups and recently OYO’s launch in Malaysia has been announced by Agarwal.
